Clapper Rails have been seen in every month of the year along the Bolivar Peninsula of Texas. Although these birds are very secretive, I can usually see them at a couple of locations on the Peninusla from late spring through late autumn if tidal conditions are favorable. However, it was on my latest trip to this area in April of 2017 that I was first able to photograph Clapper Rail chicks. The photos were taken using my car as a blind. The birds were on the edge of the road and seemed oblivious to my presence.
The first two images of adults were taken in early morning light on an earlier trip (Oct. 2014) and the last three with chicks are from the April 2017 visit.
